それでは本日もボキャブラリーレッスンを始めていきます！

1. 1971年活動開始、アメリカのレジェンドバンド
今回はEaglesの「Hotel California」を使用していきます！
1970年代に数々の名曲・名盤を残したロック史に残るレジェンドバンドです。
アメリカ西海岸ロサンゼルスを拠点とし、トータルセールスは2億枚を超えています。
2億枚って。。
世界の売れたアルバムランキングでは、マイケルジャクソンに次いで「2位」
衝撃ですね。
今回ご紹介する曲は、街角やTV等で聞いたことがある方も多いのではないでしょうか。
印象的な旋律、暗喩に富んだ歌詞から広く聴かれていて、現在では全世界的にロック・スタンダードとして定着しており、数々のロックミュージシャンにとどまらず、ポップス、ラップ、ラテン、レゲエなど、ジャンルを超えたカバー・バージョンがあります。

2. Hotel Californiaの歌詞
今回も使用するボキャブラリーには、太字アンダーラインをし、派生語・関連語を調べていきます。

①distance

outdistance（動）：〔競走相手を〕遠くへ引き離す
distant（形）：遠い（所にある）、遠く離れた（所にある）、距離がある、遠く［遠方］への［からの］
【文章例】
1. distance（名）：The distance between our houses is not far.
2. outdistance（動）：The Olympic champion easily outdistanced his competitors in the race.
3. distant（形）：The distant mountains look so beautiful in the sunset.
【意味】
1. 私達の家の間の距離は遠くありません。
2. オリンピックチャンピオンは競技でライバルたちを簡単に引き離しました。
3. 夕焼けの中、遠くに見える山々はとても美しい。
②heavy
heavy（形）：〔物が〕重い、ずっしりした、〔数や量が〕多い、たくさんの、大量の、〔重力が〕大きい、高い
heaviness（名）：重いこと、重さ、重苦しさ
heavily（副）：重く、大きな力で、〔動きが〕のろのろして、苦しそうに、厳しく、激しく、大量に、たくさん
【文章例】
1. heavy（形）：He struggles to lift the heavy box.
2. heaviness（名）：There was a heaviness in the air before the thunderstorm started.
3. heavily（副）：She was heavily pregnant.
【意味】
1. 彼はその重い箱を持ち上げるのに苦労している。
2. 雷雨が始まる前に空気に重苦しさを感じました。
3. 彼女は妊娠期間が進んでいました。
③forget
forget（動）：〔～を〕忘れる、〔～を〕思い出せない
forgetful（形）：忘れやすい、忘れがちな
forgettable（形）：忘れられがちな、忘れられやすい、忘れてもよい
【文章例】
1. forget（動）：I forgot an appointment.
2. forgetful（形）：My grandfather is getting forgetful with age.
3. forgettable（形）：He had a very forgettable face.
【意味】
1. 約束したことを忘れてしまった。
2. 祖父は年齢とともに物忘れがひどくなっています。
3. 彼は非常に忘れられやすい顔だった。
